How can you grow safely on extremely compacted soils without damaging the soil?

This is the question of Ede Kis's Education Day, and he will share his experiences so far. He himself is on the road to no-till, with strip-tillage, which on average on perc soils with a hardness of 68, offers a solution that ensures a relatively even yield with as little disturbance as possible.

How can you grow safely on extremely compacted soils without damaging the soil?

This is the question of Ede Kis's Education Day, and he will share his experiences so far. He himself is the on the way to no-till, the road is in the strip cultivationwhich, on average, provides a solution for perc soils with a hardness of 68, which ensures a relatively even yield with the least possible disturbance.

Strip-till technology on minute soil

It can be like plasticine. And sometimes it can be like concrete. Or the opposite, like butter spread on bread. When they start to dry out, they fall apart into tiny cubes. If it's wet, it's impossible to cultivate, if it's dry, that's why.

The optimal cultivation time is very limited, and we have used this window of opportunity for the training day, which is now we arranged in an unusual way. We recorded the operations on video, added explanations, and now we're editing them for those who are interested.

From the estate of Little Ede

The strip-till areas are on average 68 Gold-bound former rice fields. After the harvest, Ede sprouted the stubble, then weeded some, and did nothing on others, only strip-tilling them in September. In the spring there was only one total weeding on 24 March, no other operations.

Ede sunflower before sowing see how the Avers Agro spoke tine works in the field.

A few hundred metres from each other there are 2 paved signs. One is a plain wheat field, the other has rye and bramble cover crops between the strips.
You will be able to watch the sowing on both.

There is also the possibility to see winter barley sown directly into wheat. You can also see a standing demonstration of the RAD drill.

Meet our host

Ede Kis is engaged in arable farming on 259 hectares in Gyomaendrőd, Békés County. He grows autumn cereals, sunflower, beech and oil radish. Approximately 80% of its area is deep soil with 60-70 kA of soil cover.

In 2007, it started to switch to shallow tillage based on loosening and shallow cultivation.
Since 2016, it has been experimenting with direct seeding and cover crops and will be using strip-till technology on a commercial scale from autumn 2022.

He has been a member of the TMG Association since its foundation.
