Soil use open day: direct seeding of sunflowers on a 4-year-old no-till field

The aim of the event is to demonstrate how the no-till system works on sandy soils through a practical example, including direct seeding of sunflowers into cover crops. In addition, the water retention capacity and condition of the soil will be compared with a conventionally cultivated field, using soil tests and section analysis.

A few sentences about the event

How does the no-till system work on sandy soil? We demonstrate direct seeding of sunflowers on a no-till field since 2012 and no-till since 2022 with a custom-built seeder into an early spring terminated cover crop stand.

The programme will also compare the water retention capacity with the adjacent conventionally cultivated field.

During the soil section analysis, the staff of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Szeged will help to evaluate what they have seen.
